At WAH, we offer a broad range of veterinary services designed to cater to the health and well-being of your pets. Our team of experienced Veterinarians and support staff is committed to providing comprehensive care for your pets. We believe preventative medicine is the best medicine. We recommend regular core vaccines to prevent infectious disease as well as preventatives for parasites such as fleas, ticks, heartworms and intestinal parasites. As your pet ages, we believe in screening lab work to identify any problems early, so they can be effectively managed. Throughout your pet's life we’re here for every step along the way.
Preventive Care
Pets age faster than humans. While their lives progress more quickly, serious medical conditions do too. Annual wellness exams can help detect serious medical conditions allowing our Doctors to begin treatment earlier. Preventive care encompasses a variety of practices that ensure your pets remain in optimal health. Not only do regular veterinary check-ups allow for early detection of health issues but it also ensures protection for infectious diseases through vaccinations and maintains oral health through routine dental care. A balanced diet and regular exercise are fundamental components of preventive care, as they contribute to overall well-being and longevity. Additionally, monitoring your pet's behavior and habits can alert you to changes that may indicate a health concern. By prioritizing preventive care, you not only enhance your dog's quality of life but also potentially reduce healthcare costs in the long run.
Diagnostics
Having a sick or injured pet can be very stressful. Additionally, our pets can’t tell us why they are sick or hurting. Diagnostics help our Doctors see beneath the surface to see what may be causing your pet to feel unwell.
Wateree Animal Hospital can conduct blood tests, perform radiographs and ultrasounds to effectively diagnose and treat your pet's ailments.
WAH can also recommend if your pet needs more specialized care. We are proud to offer current patients in-house appointments with a Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist and Board-Certified Veterinary Cardiologist. If the need arises for either of these specialties, your pet can be seen right here at WAH in a familiar environment and with their care team right by their side.
Surgery
Veterinary surgery is very similar to surgery for humans. Surgical procedures are performed in sterile environments utilizing anesthesia to ensure the comfort and safety of every patient. Pre-operative assessments are crucial to evaluating your pet's health and to minimize risks during surgery. Post-operative care is equally important, including pain management and monitoring for complications. Our Wateree Animal Hospital provides a range of surgical procedures, from routine spaying and neutering to more complex surgeries such as orthopedic repairs, tumor removals, and emergency interventions.
Puppies and Kittens
Preventive care encompasses a variety of practices that ensure your pets remain in optimal health and this starts at the very beginning of life. Periodic visits when your pet is young allow for early detection of potential health issues and the administration of vaccinations to protect against serious diseases. Puppy and kitten visits are important in tracking your pet’s growth markers, this includes a regular nutritional evaluation, and getting started on preventives to protect against heartworm, intestinal parasites and external parasites such as fleas and ticks.
Other items important to discuss during the puppy/kitten time period is microchipping and spaying/neutering your pet. We’re here to help and set your pet up for a long, happy life.
Dentistry
Dental health is vital for maintaining your pet's overall well-being. Annual oral exams are an important piece of a preventative care regimen because numerous diseases can either originate or be exacerbated by poor dental hygiene. Advanced dental disease can affect other bodily functions such as those in the liver, kidneys, heart and nervous system. Dental cleanings are very similar to human dental cleanings, except that we are required to use anesthesia to properly and safely examine and clean the teeth. Just like any procedure requiring anesthesia, pre-operative assessments are crucial to evaluating your pet's health and to minimize risks during anesthesia. During the procedure, our Veterinarians perform a thorough oral exam to check for signs of periodontal disease like gum loss, root exposure, or pockets around the root and look for any other abnormalities in or around the mouth.
Acupuncture and Laser Therapy
Acupuncture is a therapeutic practice that significantly helps the body heal itself. This traditional method can effectively stimulate nerves, improve blood flow, reduce muscle spasms, and trigger the release of important hormones such as endorphins, which are known to relieve pain, and cortisol, which helps to regulate the body’s stress response.
Laser Therapy is a quick, painless, drug-free and highly effective means of reducing pain, improving mobility and speeding healing following surgery or injury. The process involves the use of a small, handheld device that emits an intense beam of light. The laser targets areas of the body that are experiencing pain or stiffness, or that have suffered some type of trauma. When the laser reaches the area in question, it causes a cellular response which triggers the body’s natural pain relief and healing mechanisms.
Bonus, you can sit at your pet’s side and watch them enjoy these treatments. Laser therapy is available at both locations and acupuncture is currently offered in our Camden office.
