4th of July Safety

Independence Day creates a “perfect storm” for missing pets. Statistics show that more dogs are lost over the 4th of July holiday than any other time of the year. Even the most laid back of dogs can be frightened by fireworks causing them to flee in fear.

When pets run in fear, they can lose their collars and by the time they are found by someone there is no way to identify the pet or the owner. Because of this, we encourage all of our patients to be microchipped. A microchip is administered just like a vaccine and once registered, makes it easy for your pet to be easily identified by a quick, free microchip scan. Who scans the pet? We do! Pets can be scanned at any veterinary hospital or animal shelter facility. With one quick scan, pets can be reunited back with their family in no time at all. Did you know that only about 22% of lost pets that entered animal shelters were reunited with their families. However, the return-to-owner rate for microchipped pets was over 52% (a 238%  increase!). Don’t let your pet fall into the 22%, get a microchip today!
